CONGREGATION LEADER: COVER LETTER Thank you for expressing an interest in Son of David Congregation (SODC). SODC serves the greater Washington DC area and is well respected by the Body of Messiah, both locally and internationally. Enclosed is a preliminary application to aid in our selection process with various documents communicating the vision and doctrines of SODC. While this is not extensive, the enclosed should give you an overview of the congregation. SODC began as a Bible study in the mid 80's sponsored by Chosen People Ministries. In the late 80's the Bible study transformed to Son of David Fellowship, and in 1989 became Son of David Congregation under the leadership of Scott Brown. The congregation has been hosted by various churches in Montgomery County, with our office in Gaithersburg MD. Currently, we are meeting at the facility of 1st Baptist Church of Wheaton in Wheaton MD. This church is in a building program and within 2 years, hopes to be in their new building on land recently purchased in Olney, MD. SODC has been invited to partner with the church and their building plans and to move along with 1st Baptist Church when the move takes place. This includes housing our congregational office. Son of David Congregation is a diverse group with congregants representing 15 countries around the world, with about a 50/50 ratio of Jewish and Gentile congregants. While our average weekly attendance is approximately 125, our member/regular attender roster numbers approximately 240. We have a thriving Shabbat School and youth program that minister to our children and teens. SODC is part of a local group of Messianic leaders that meets on a regular basis to encourage interaction among the groups. The past two years, we have celebrated Chanukah and Shavuot together, representing the local Messianic body at large. We hope that this gives you a taste of life at SODC.
